On the 23rd Oct 2016 I travelled to Samburu, Archers post to the school, as the class leaving this year was the original lower class when Brian opened the school. The kids have therefore gone from form three to form one and are now moving to primary school.
I have to say I have been so impressed not only by the standard that the kids have reached, but by their total confidence, self esteem and well being. In fact, Brian has said on number of occasions how cheeky they had become!!!
There is no doubt in our minds they have achieved this high standard as we limited the class to twenty kids. You have to remember these kids come from a community that is extremely poor many have single parents and when you compare them to other kids in their community, they are leaps and bounds ahead of the others. One of my aims was to select a number of children we could sponsor as they moved up to the next school. It turned out to be extremely difficult task as many fit the bill. After a lot of consultation with the teachers, we were able to narrow the selection down to top six, four girls, two boys. This selection has delighted Brian, as it has been one of his aims to improve to girl child education so that they can go on achieving to improve the level of girls within the community.
My brief was to select two pupils to be sponsored and as I said earlier I found it extremely difficult I ended up selecting six. To be truthful, it’s very little between them and I’m hoping there may be a number of kind individuals who read this that would sponsor a child at 200 pounds a year.
Here are the children all six years old. They all live in a hut similar to the one below and come from poor families. All have both parents except Moses who lives with his aunt.
This is Brian Lijale. He has been on the top position since joining Lisa’s school. No one ever beat him from position one for the last three years.Comes from a family of four kids.
Risalo Leneigwanai position two. They are seven in the family and she is the only girl.
Epian Lekoloto comes position three. seven in her family. She is a very social girl and keen on Mathematics.
Eveline Lemoyog is the girl who will be the first to hug you when you step in the school compound. She has never been shy poses in front in case you take your camera out. I knew her from the very first day in the school and I have been very keen in her performance. She is one of the faces I will miss seeing around.
Moses Learpora is the last born in a family of ten, five boys five girls single parent(dad). He lives with his aunt. They can’t afford a meal the staff were forced to feed him before going home in the afternoon and on returning in the morning. Very outspoken clever boy who came position five in the class.
Michell Leluata comes position six. Very humble and kind girl.
I’m so proud of what our little school has been able to achieve within the community. And finally our appeal for sponsors so that the above can maximise on their good start, please contact Liz and Terry long on firstname.lastname@example.org
